Innovative & In Charge: How Bryson DeChambeau Is Breaking Golf (Ep. 456)

Episode Summary

When something’s been around a long time, like golf, baseball, journalism, or investing, tradition starts to take hold. The people who made the rules train the next generation, then that generation trains the incoming class, and so on. Eventually, tradition becomes synonymous with what’s possible. People take tradition without question and it as boundaries defining the laws of the game. You don’t realize you’re playing by someone else’s rules that died 50, 100 years ago because you’ve never seen anyone else act outside these rules. Maybe you’ve been told, that’s just the way you play the game. Over time, you start to believe it. Then comes Bryson DeChambeau, an absolute stud on the PGA tour, US Open Winner and who people call “The Mad Scientist at Golf” He’s someone who came along and said yeah, there’s tradition, and there’s also other ways to play this game. I’m going to take the wisdom and knowledge of tradition and combine it with science to blow past limits and play the game differently. These principles of Bryson DeChambeau I’m about to go through can apply to any game or practice. This isn’t about golf as much as it is asking questions and finding ways to push past limits and rules that other people tell you, you have to play by.
